For over a year now my topic on my Motherwell show has been “lets talk more”, I have had the most amazing guests on my show talking all about their loved experiences on a range of topics. From infant loss to domestic abuse. The guests that I have had the pleasure of speaking to, have all been amazing and brave when sharing their stories and the feedback from listeners has been so positive.
This lead me to the idea of a mental health conference on World Mental Health Day on October 10th. The conference is now all planned and I feel so privileged to have such fabulous speakers. There will be a panel of people with lived experiences, sharing their stories of living with mental health.
The commissioning manager from South Cheshire Clinical Commissioning group will be talking about their priorities for mental health over the next 3 years.
A brave mum will be talking about her son, who tragically took his own life at the age of 16 years. Find out about how his cries for help were not taken seriously and how lessons learnt must be implemented.
There will also be a screening of the documentary “the illusionists” which looks at the impact on body image in the media.
Other guests will be revealed over the next few weeks.
The only way that the stigma around mental health will change is for people to not only talk about mental health but also for others to understand the struggles that people face every day. After the success of my maternal mental health conference, I decided to focus on mental health in general.
Over the coming weeks I will be having the panel speakers on my show to share more of their stories, stay tuned!
The conference will be held at Cheshire College Crewe Campus, 10th October 2019 10-4pm.
