Story from Nantwich Town Council:
Friday night welcomed another sparkling Christmas Lights Extravaganza in Nantwich Town Centre to kick start the festive season.
Thousands, young and old gathered in the town centre to take advantage of the event’s fun-filled programme, organised by Nantwich Town Council.
Setting a festive scene, the town welcomed back a mini-artisan market along Churchyardside.
Chris Radford, compere for the evening, opened the event by welcoming young local talent Nantwich Youth Choir to the stage and festive cheer was added by Nantwich Young Voices singing Carols.
The crowd was then treated to an energetic set from the fabulous UK Bjorn who led the celebrations into the finale.
Rev Dr Mark Hart of St Mary’s Church and Christmas Tree Sponsors Applewood Independent took to the stage to wish everyone a Happy Christmas.
The Mayor of Nantwich, Councillor Arthur Moran, thanked everyone for attending and welcomed his VIPs Cara, Lily-May, Mason, Meghan, and Georgy, who had been nominated for their bravery to turn on the lights.
Finally, Santa made an appearance much to the delight of the children in the crowd.
The Switch-On was followed by an impressive musical firework display from Blitz followed to end the proceedings.
The Christmas Lights Switch On is always a wonderful start to the festive period and now residents can enjoy a variety of events leading up to the big day including Fashion Night Out taking place on Thursday evening (21st November) around town, a Christmas Artisan Market on Saturday 14th December, Christmas Farmers Market on Saturday 21st December, and of course Father Christmas will be making many appearances – visit www.nantwichtowncouncil.gov.uk for more information or visit Nantwich Information on Facebook
