Crewe Alexandra Women beat Wigan 9-0 in a Women’s North West Premier League game at the Cumberland Arena on Sunday. This result leaves Crewe in third position with 13 points and Wigan are bottom. Even so Wigan deserve credit for their battling performance and making it a game of it.
In a highly entertaining game which the Alex dominated they commanded a 6-0 half time lead. Amanda Fallon, assisted by Megan Booth, opened the scoring in the fourteenth minute. Four minutes later Megan Parker doubled Crewe’s lead after latching on to Fallon’s header. A few minutes later Jess Sheridan added a third from Laura Garner’s corner and Beth Grice scored her first and Crewe’s forth, again made by Fallon.
Fallon then finished off Wigan with her second goal when she fought off the defenders and slotted the ball through their keeper’s legs. Beth Grice, assisted by Megan Parker, scored her second to make it 6-0 at half time.
Emila Edwards replaced Megan Parker at half time and it only took her eight minutes to celebrate her first goal for Crewe from a Garner corner. Then five minutes later she netted her second after Laura Garner’s shot was too hot for the keeper.
Loren Cooper finished the scoring making it 9-0 for the Alex after stooping at the far post to net Beth Grice’s corner.
This victory will give the Alex plenty of confidence for their FA Cup match against West Brom next Sunday at the Cumberland Arena. Kick off is at 1pm.
