On Sunday 11th October, Crewe Alexandra Women played FC United in their first game in the North West Women’s Regional League Premier Division at the Cumberland Sports Ground.
In a highly entertaining game both teams demonstrated high levels of skill and were evenly balanced. It was Crewe who broke the deadlock in the 34th. minute with a finely taken goal by Megan Booth, who was played in by the recalled Jess Dawson. However, Kate O’Gara equalised for FC United within two minutes, but Megan Booth scored her and Crewe’s second goal just before half time.
Crewe had a chance to extend their lead when Megan Booth was brought down in the box, but FC United stopper Chloe Ainsworth saved the penalty. This gave FC United a lift and they continued to pressurise the Crewe defence and got their reward when Kirsty Chambers netted in the 80th. minute.
The game could have gone either way, but it was FC United’s Kate O’Gara who scored her second goal in the 88th. minute to give her side a hard worked for victory.
