Crewe Alexandra Women beat a good Sunderland West End side in a qualifying round of the Vitality Women’s FA Cup 1-0 win at the Cumberland Arena on Sunday afternoon.

In a closely contested  match Cerys Griffin scored the winner during pouring rain in the 24th minute with a 25 yard volley. It was an exciting and competitive game played in showery conditions.

Goalkeeper Hannah Holloway showed a safe pair of hands and was awarded the Player of the Match.

For their reward the Alex now face a strong West Bromwich Albion side at home in the first round proper on remembrance Sunday, 14th November.
