A Nantwich Town FC XI played United Sports in a friendly match (3x 30 minutes each way) at the Swansway Stadium on Sunday 24th July 2022. The match was free entry and saw United Sports finish 3-1 winners.

The Nantwich Town XI were predominately youth players. United Sports were all youth players from America managed by Gordon Hill, who has been bringing players from the USA back to the UK for many years where they are able to face off against English opposition.

Gordon is one of only two English players to have played for England at all levels from Youth to 1st team. He was nicknamed β€˜Merlin’ in his time at Millwall, and went on to win the FA Cup with Manchester United in 1977 in a career that saw him score over fifty times for the Reds. After a spell in the United States in the second half of his career, Gordon now promotes the beautiful game in North America, specialising in grass roots development of youngsters as a director across the country.

Local community radio station The Cat 107.9 FM kept spectators entertained pre-match and during the intervals with a range of US and British popular music.
