Community Hero Award – James Yates

James Yates, Community Hero Award

James’s heroic actions, at an incident that took place locally, most likely prevented serious injury to a local police officer on duty, which meant she was able to return to her family safe and well at the end of the day.

The situation at the scene turned very serious, very quickly, when the officer was attacked by a male, who was suspected of being under the influence. James stopped the male from punching the officer multiple times in the face and who was also threatening to slit her throat.

Despite the fact that James is not a trained police officer, had no protective clothing or weapons, he risked his life and subjected himself to potential infection with the current Covid-19 pandemic and successfully stopped the attack

The male perpetrator has since gone to court and ordered to spend 20 weeks in prison.
