When CEO of Motherwell Cheshire CIO, Kate Blakemore set off on her 40-mile summer challenge walking from the Anne Lister statue in Halifax to the Emmeline Pankhurst statue in Manchester, one of Kate’s objectives was to raise money for their Inspire Project.
In total Kate raised an impressive £750 for the Inspire Project that supports the mental health and wellbeing of young women aged 13 years plus. This fundraising has been much needed as the demand for their services has been greater than ever.
International Day of the Girl is celebrated on Tuesday 11th October, and with this in mind, Motherwell Cheshire are hosting a mini conference where they will be highlighting the issues that matter most to the young women of Cheshire and what they are doing to support them in tackling these issues.
Hosted by Cheshire College South & West, Crewe Campus, the event will commence at 3.30 with the presentation “Making Space for Girls” which will discuss the exciting project that the Inspire girls have been working on together with Crewe Town Council and the London School of Economics; looking at the public spaces in the local area and how they can be improved to accommodation young women.
Other presentations will include “Empowerment Groups in Schools” with students of Sandbach High School and “Young Women in Sport” with some of Cheshire’s rising stars in women’s football.
The day will come to a close with an overview of the Inspire Project, what they have achieved and what the plans are for the future.
Kate Blakemore said of the event: “This is our opportunity to celebrate a special day whilst showcasing the great work of the Inspire Project. Our Inspire Project is named to “Inspire” every young woman that we support, empowering young women to have a voice. We look forward to seeing everyone at the conference including professionals who support young women locally so that together we can continue to make a difference.”
The International Day of the Girl Celebration conference takes place on Tuesday 11th October at Cheshire College South and West, Crewe Campus between 3.30pm and 5.30pm. Free tickets can be booked online.
