MP and Councillor go wild at Local Business Selling Dried Ostrich and Kangaroo

Have you ever wondered what dried ostrich tastes like? No, this is not a trial from I’m a Celebrity, but the products of a family-run business in Crewe.

The Weston Biltong Company and The Cheshire Biltong Company makes and sells Ostrich, Zebra, and Kangaroo varieties of biltong – a South African dried meat delicacy.

Run by husband-and-wife team Ryan and Sheryl Walker, they make all their products by hand at their site at Radway Green Business Park. The team were recently visited by Crewe and Nantwich MP, Kieran Mullan, and Haslington Councillor, Steve Edgar.

Kieran and Steve were shown around their site and were taught about biltong and shown how it is made. They also had a go at weighing and packaging some!

Outside of the more unusual meats, they also make regular biltong, using UK sourced beef, supporting our farming industry.

The company also like to do things for the community, supporting charitable projects.

For example, they sponsored a group of Sub-Mariners who raised money rowing in the world’s toughest boat race by providing them with enough biltong for the whole journey!

Ryan, the Managing Director, commented, “It was a great opportunity to meet up with Kieran and put across the challenges we have faced especially over the pandemic. As an expanding business the chance to put forward these points and get some great feedback was an opportunity not to be missed.”

Kieran commented, ‘It is amazing to see a local business doing so well with a new and original idea. I really admire people that start and grow a business from scratch!’

Cllr Steve Edgar commented, ‘biltong is a fabulous and delicious product – the best part was that we could eat our mistakes! It was great to visit a successful, local business in my ward.’
