Nantwich Singers Celebrate Magic of Christmas

On Saturday 12th December 2020, The Nantwich Singers are presenting two free Christmas performances in St.Mary’s Church, Nantwich to help lift the spirits of the community and spread some much-needed festive cheer through beautiful carols old and new.

After over six months in lockdown, the Nantwich Singers return to their home of St.Mary’s Church, Nantwich, to give a pair of informal performances.

In a Christmas season where carol singing and live concerts will be much less frequent than usual, the Nantwich Singers will perform a
programme entitled “The Magic of Christmas”. This will feature classic carols as well as newer works from composers such as Gabriel Jackson, Gail Randall, Morten Lauridsen, and Peter Warlock.

The choir is also excited to feature music from “Multitude of Voyces: Sacred Music by Women Composers”, the first volume of a ground-breaking new series that exists to support underrepresented communities through choral music. This is a project with national and international reach that the choir is delighted to support. As they look to engage with audiences old and new, excerpts of the concert will also be available for streaming online.

At the end of a difficult year for all, the choir is eager to offer the community an escape for Christmas and a glimpse of more positive times to come.

The concerts also mark the debut concert appearances for the choir’s dynamic new music director, Jake Barlow. After taking up his position on the podium in January, the Crewe-based conductor and vocalist is delighted to be at the helm.

Of the choir, he said “In my musical career I have rarely been as excited about a choir as I am about the Nantwich Singers. Even in times as challenging as these, they have approached everything with a professionalism and dedication that makes being their conductor a pleasure and a privilege. They have adapted to new ways of working very quickly, and I am so pleased to be able to show the community and wider world some of the the results of all their hard work”.

The concerts will take place at 3.00pm and 7.00pm on Saturday 12th December 2020.

In order to keep the concert safe for everyone involved, the concerts will be following a number of extra safety precautions in line with current government guidelines including socially distant seating, face coverings, and stewards to seat people safely.

Tickets are free, but booking is compulsory. Please visit thenantwichsingers.org/boxoffice to book tickets.
