Get Involved with The Cat Community Radio
The Cat 107.9 broadcasts on FM and online, 24 hours a day. We are on the lookout for volunteers with a passion for community based radio.
We have an ever-growing total of more than 40 people in our team who all work together to produce a fully functioning, local community radio station for the people of Crewe, Nantwich and the surrounding area.
Throughout the year, we have a selection of opportunities. These range from presenting, helping out behind the scenes, and staffing our roadshows, it’s a great way to learn new skills and develop confidence. Whether it’s an hour a week or 4 hours a day, it’s a great way to indulge in what you love.
Each and every person involved in the station is here on a voluntary basis. Some of our team have worked for the biggest radio brands in the country, from commercial through to national stations. Others bring their own skill set from outside of the radio industry, having never set foot inside a studio before they join us.
These are the roles we are looking to fill as a priority, however if you have any previous media experience, or feel that you can add value with your particular skill set, then we’d really love to hear from you too.
We are looking for daytime presenters to compliment our existing team. We currently air five daytime shows every weekday:
• Breakfast (07:00 – 09:00 )
• Mornings (09:00 -11:00)
• Brunch (11:00 – 12:00)
• Lunch (12:00 – 14:00 )
• Afternoons (14:00 – 16:00)
• Drivetime (16:00 – 18:00)
Ideally applicants should have previous presentation or production experience, preferably at an Ofcom licensed station, or be undertaking an accredited course at college or university.
You should have a good understanding of the importance of structured daytime output and a basic understanding of playout systems (such as Myriad) and studio operation.
Journalists & Newsreaders
We’re looking to develop our news team to help us continue to be the source for local stories.
• Writing and reading our on air news and/or sport bulletins
• Researching and writing content for our website
• Attending news conferences, interview opportunities and press calls
Candidates should ideally have previous experience or a passion for journalism, If that’s not you, but you have a great voice, you can join our team to read local news, weather or travel plus get out and about gaining audio and video interviews.
Producers & Production Assistants
We are looking to expand our team of producers and production assistants to compliment and support our output of shows. This can be basic support skills such as answering the phone and vetting texts and emails, through to full production assistance ensuring shows run smoothly.
This role covers our daytime shows and specialist content. We’re particularly interested in production support for Breakfast, Lunch and Drivetime (ideally with experience in the role) and for our sports show on Saturday afternoons.
This is a great way to start your media journey and a great way to put skills from any college or University course into practice. You’ll learn new skills and develop existing ones, leading to other roles in the station in the future.
Volunteering for Your Community
The biggest requirement we have from all new members is commitment. If you’re successful and offered a role, we’ll invest time and money in training you, we need people who can commit to that role.
