St Mary’s Acton to Host Exhibition and Other Events During the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend

St Mary’s Acton to host an exhibition to setup a duo of events during the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend.

St Mary’s Church on Monks Lane in Acton, near Nantwich CW5 8LE, are hosting a second event during the Queen’s forthcoming Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday Weekend.

St Mary’s Acton have already announced a Jubilee-themed ‘Tea at the Tower’ community café event on Sunday 5th June 2022 (2-5pm).

The preceding day – Saturday 4th June – they are also hosting a Jubilee-themed exhibition inside the church from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

The exhibition is free entry and will illustrate key events throughout Her Majesty’s 70 year reign. 

It will feature fashions, hats, wedding dresses, Prime Ministers, Queen’s crown jewels, Queen’s soldiers, Queen’s horses, Queen’s pets, Queen’s castles and portraits of the Queen.

The exhibits have been made by Acton CE Primary Academy pupils and members of the St Mary’s Acton congregation. 

This year, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service to the people of the United Kingdom and the Realms and the Commonwealth.

A representative from St Mary’s Church, Acton said: “We are really looking forward to the Bank Holiday weekend celebrations – there will be something for everyone. The church will be brimming with memorabilia for Saturday’s Exhibition; and the bunting will be up and ready for the Queens Platinum Jubilee ‘Tea at the Tower’ on Sunday – when we will have a local band to entertain us.” 

Other future events at St Mary’s Church, Acton: 

  • Queen’s Platinum Jubilee themed ‘Tea at the Tower’ community café event on Sunday 5th June 2022 (2-5pm). Hot drinks and cakes are being served on traditional trestle tables both outside and inside the church. Bunting and flags will adorn the walkways to the church marquee. Bring your own fizz or beer. Donations are gratefully received. All are welcome and there will be a prize for the best Crown (adults & children). Join a game of Rounders at 3pm.
  • ‘Tea at the Tower’ – run by church volunteers and takes place every Sunday afternoon (2:30-4:30pm) throughout the year. Hot drinks and cakes are available. Donations are gratefully received.
  • ‘Tea at the Tower’ guided monthly walks. The walks are at a relaxed pace and the 5-mile route will mainly involve canal towpath and lane walking and only a small number of stiles will be negotiated. Stout outdoor shoes or walking shoes/boots are recommended. Ample car parking is available in the Acton village car park. All are welcome, including dogs on leads. Donations are gratefully received. All walks start from St Mary’s Church, Acton at 1pm (please meet for 12.45pm at the Church), and for those who wish to indulge in cake and a drink, walkers will be back in time to visit the Acton Church ‘Tea at the Tower’ community café. The future dates for the walks are: Sunday 12th June, Sunday 3rd July (Summer Challenge walk, 8 miles), Sunday 7th August and Sunday 4th September.

All the events raise valuable funds for St Mary’s Church, Acton, a Grade 1 listed building.

Church Services at St Mary’s Church, Acton:

  • Sundays – 8am Holy Communion on the 2nd & 4th Sundays, 11am Morning Service, 6.30pm Evening Service.
  • Wednesdays – 10.30am Holy Communion. Please check noticeboard outside church for any changes.  -Messy Church for children on the third Sunday at 10am and a Toddler Group on alternate Wednesday mornings at 9.15am
